In the third quarter of 2026, sales declined at some of Germany’s major car manufacturers. At the same time, growing demand for electric vehicles and their increasing share of total sales remain among the industry’s key trends.
According to its report, the BMW Group’s global vehicle sales fell by 6.3 percent during the reporting period to 551,072 vehicles. Sales in Germany dropped by 24.8 percent to 114,355 vehicles. In the United States, however, sales increased by 2.5 percent to 106,741 vehicles. In Europe, the figure rose by 2.7 percent to 235,628 vehicles.
According to the data, one in every three BMW vehicles sold in Europe is a fully electric model. Sales of MINI, a brand belonging to the BMW Group, decreased by 2.4 percent to 70,712 vehicles. Luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce sold 1,069 vehicles during the reporting period. Since the beginning of the year, the BMW Group’s total sales have reached 1,707,799 vehicles.
Sales of Audi, a brand within the Volkswagen Group, also declined. During the reporting period, the company sold 314,900 vehicles, down 19.7 percent compared with the same period last year. Audi’s electric vehicle sales amounted to 48,700 units over the same period.
Alongside Audi, the Volkswagen Group includes the Škoda, SEAT and Porsche brands.
Changes in automakers’ sales figures reflect intensifying competition in the global market. Although sales of vehicles with conventional engines are declining in some markets, the growth of electric vehicles is playing an important role in the technological transformation of the automotive industry.
