An international open online informatics Olympiad will be held on November 5, 2026, bringing together undergraduate and master’s students from the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas and several higher education institutions in the People’s Republic of China.
The competition will take place online. Its main objectives are to introduce innovative technologies into the education system and provide an opportunity for the objective assessment of students’ knowledge. The Olympiad is organized by the Yagshygeldi Kakayev International University of Oil and Gas through the Luban Workshop established in Turkmenistan.
Participants will represent the aforementioned Turkmen university, as well as the China University of Petroleum in Beijing, Xi’an Shiyou University and Hebei Petroleum Vocational and Technical University. Each participating university may enter no more than 30 contestants.
The Olympiad will feature individual and team competitions. Team results will also be calculated to determine rankings among the participating universities. The official working languages will be Turkmen, Russian and English.
A dedicated digital system based on the Moodle platform, developed and administered by the university, will be used to assess participants’ knowledge and skills. Video monitoring and videoconferencing tools are planned to help ensure the transparency of the competition and the objectivity of its results.
The Olympiad will consist of two stages. The first is titled “Digital Technologies and Informatics,” while the second is “Artificial Intelligence and Programming.” Participants will be assessed on their theoretical knowledge, problem-solving abilities and programming skills in these areas.
Participants who achieve outstanding results in the individual competition will receive first-, second- and third-degree diplomas. The total number of award recipients must not exceed 50 percent of all participants. Diplomas will be distributed across the three award levels in a ratio of 1:2:3. In the team competition, diplomas will be awarded to the teams placing first, second and third.
In addition to the main awards, special prizes will recognize outstanding achievements. These include awards for the best performance in the first stage, the best solution developed with the assistance of artificial intelligence, the fastest correct solution to a problem, and the creation of the most efficient program code.
The international informatics Olympiad will help young people strengthen their knowledge of digital technologies, artificial intelligence and programming, while promoting educational and scientific cooperation between higher education institutions in Turkmenistan and China.
