On October 20, 2026, a literary and cultural event dedicated to the Poetry Day of Hafiz Shirazi, a prominent figure in classical Persian literature, was held at the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. The event was jointly organized by the higher education institution and the Cultural Center of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Turkmenistan.
The opening speeches were delivered by Döwletgeldi Hallygylyjow, a lecturer at the Institute of International Relations of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Abdolreza Abbasi, the Iranian Embassy’s cultural affairs counsellor.
The speakers highlighted the common features of Persian and Turkmen literature, the centuries-old good-neighbourly relations between the two peoples, and their shared spiritual values. It was noted that Hafiz Shirazi’s literary heritage reflects these historical and cultural ties.
The Iranian Embassy’s cultural affairs counsellor noted that Hafiz’s poetry continues to enjoy widespread popularity thanks to its simple and accessible language. Particular emphasis was placed on the idea that the poet’s verses about friendship, peace, truthfulness and love are a spiritual treasure not only for Iran but also for the entire world.
The event was attended by students from Magtymguly Turkmen State University, the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages, and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, as well as participants in Persian language courses at the Cultural Center.
During the event, poems were recited in Turkmen and Persian, and songs were performed. Works by Hafiz Shirazi, Saadi Shirazi and Magtymguly Pyragy were presented.
At the conclusion of the event, guests viewed a joint exhibition of applied arts and crafts from the two countries and explored Persian-language literature.
