Turkmenistan is stepping up international cooperation to reduce methane emissions and promote the effective use of associated gas in its fuel and energy sector. In this area, the state concerns Turkmengaz and Turkmennebit are working with leading foreign companies במסגרת a relevant World Bank project.
The project's main objective is to reduce methane emissions from oil and gas production facilities, prevent gas losses and redirect recovered gas for economically beneficial use. These measures will improve environmental safety in production and promote more efficient use of natural resources.
At a Cabinet of Ministers meeting on October 31, 2026, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved proposals aimed at reducing methane emissions. Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Guvanch Agajanov was instructed to establish systematic international cooperation to implement environmental protection measures at fuel and energy production facilities.
The initiative forms part of Turkmenistan's efforts to reduce methane emissions, minimize the environmental impact of the oil and gas industry and promote environmentally sustainable production in the energy sector.
