England international and Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane has been named the winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or by France Football. The awards ceremony took place in London on 26 October. Kylian Mbappé finished second, followed by Lamine Yamal in third place.
Harry Kane, the striker for the England national team and German club Bayern Munich, has been named the world’s best footballer of 2026 by France Football magazine. The 70th Ballon d’Or award ceremony took place on October 26 at the London Palladium Theatre.
According to the voting results, Kylian Mbappé, the forward for the France national team and Real Madrid, finished in second place. Lamine Yamal, a midfielder for Spain and Barcelona, came third.
The top ten also included renowned footballers such as Rodri, Lionel Messi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Ousmane Dembélé, Erling Haaland and Michael Olise.
During the previous season, 33-year-old Harry Kane scored a total of 73 goals in 65 appearances for Bayern Munich and the England national team. This achievement highlights the high level of his performances in world football.
Kane became the fifth English footballer in history to win the Ballon d’Or. Before him, the prestigious award had been won by Stanley Matthews, Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen. The last English player to receive the award was Michael Owen, who won it in 2001.
In the women’s category, Spanish footballer Alexia Putellas won the Ballon d’Or for the third time. In the summer of 2026, she moved from Barcelona to the English club London City Lionesses.
One notable feature of this year’s ceremony was that, for the first time, it was held outside Paris, taking place in London. The organisers chose the British capital in honour of English footballer Stanley Matthews, who became the first recipient of the award in 1956.
In 2025, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to Ousmane Dembélé, a player for the Parisian club Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
