Rosalía Gushes Over ‘Mind-Blowing’ U2 Song Dedication on New Album: ‘It’s Amazing’

The singer visited The Tonight Show on Wednesday (Oct. 7) to talk about the celebrity confessionals on her LUX tour and her SNL gig this weekend.

Rosalía  has hit a lot of career highs over the past year, including her LUX album debuting at No. 1 on five different Billboard charts at once last November and being named Woman of the Year at the 2026 Billboard Latin Women in Music event.

But on Wednesday night (Oct. 7), when Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon asked her what it felt like to find out that U2 had dedicated a song to her , “The Mirror Maker (Rosalía)”, on their upcoming Carnaval De Luz album, the Spanish superstar seemed dumbstruck and humbled. “Bono,” she said reverently, shaking her head in disbelief and repeating the name of the Irish rock band’s singer again like an incantation.

“Yeah, that’s crazy,” she told Fallon, who turned the singer’s pronunciation into a bit, repeating it in his approximation of her Catalonian accent. “Do you know Bono?” Fallon asked. “I don’t know Bono,” Rosalía laughed. “I don’t know Bono, but he texted me and he told me that he had this project, new project, this new song, ‘The Mirror Maker,’ I think it’s called and he was asking me if it made sense, certain words,” she explained.

She said there was one word in particular Bono said he wanted to use, “marmolay,” (by which Fallon thought she meant “marmalade”), which she said she’d never heard of. So, she researched it and discovered that it didn’t exist in standard Spanish. “So I just told him, ‘I don’t know, but feel free to invent your own language,'” she counseled the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer.

“So he invented a word for you? He can do that, though, he’s Bono, he’s a legend. He’s allowed to do that,” Fallon suggested. Rosalía admitted that the shout-out was “insane” and “mind-blowing,” because, she said, “when I was a kid I used to hear his songs,” before busting into the chorus of U2’s 1987 Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit “With Or Without You.”

“It’s amazing,” she added.

In addition to crushing it in a game of charades with fellow guest Tate McRae and talking about many celebrity confessionals on her LUX tour, the singer discussed her upcoming gig on Saturday Night Live this weekend with host comedian Shane Gillis. She said that, unlike when she’s on tour, she’s had time to explore New York this week during SNL rehearsals, including waking up on Sunday and deciding she wanted to go to the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem. So, she woke early, showered, did her makeup, put on perfume, oils, moisturizers and her “church heels” to go with her capri pants and a “modest cardigan” to prepare to hear the word of the Lord.

“And then I go there and I get there early and it’s freezing outside and I see this huge line, but I’m like, ‘I’m gonna do it,'” she said. Then, after waiting in the long line and finally getting up to the front, a man at the door tells her that, unfortunately, she could attend services, while giving her “you’re not on the list” energy.

“And then he just says, ‘The church is full.’ So I couldn’t get in. Yeah, I got rejected by the church,” said the singer, who embraced a variety of religious iconography and themes on LUX . So, instead, she went shopping and bought a new pair of shoes. “God said ‘no,’ but my outfit said ‘yes,'” she joked.
