An international dialogue on the topic «The role of women in maintaining peace and achieving sustainable development» was held in the «Avaza» National tourist zone. The large-scale forum was attended by leaders and representatives of the Mejlis and public organisations of Turkmenistan, the parliaments of the CIS countries and the Republic of Türkiye, specialised UN agencies, as well as the Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, delivered a welcoming speech and report at the forum. In her address, she particularly emphasized that in independent, neutral Turkmenistan, the utmost attention is paid to enhancing the role of women in society, as well as the comprehensive expansion of their rights and opportunities.
«Policy of our government in this area ensures women's high professional, economic, and labor activity. Therefore, today, Turkmen women, in accordance with their abilities and professional training, make a worthy contribution to socioeconomic development of the country, being widely represented in the legislative, executive, and judicial branches of government, as well as in various sectors of economy of the country», – the Chairperson of the Mejlis stated.
The Speaker of Parliament also added that caring for women and creating conditions for the realisation of their intellectual and creative potential are among the key priorities of state policy of the country. Turkmenistan demonstrates a consistent commitment to the principles of gender equality at both the national and international levels, which is an integral part of its strategic course towards sustainable development.
