Art knows no boundaries: Nikita Vysotskiy brought young theatrical talents to Ashgabat

The grand opening of the V International festival «Theatre art of the happy epoch» took place in Ashgabat. The creative forum brought together stage performers, directors, and cultural figures from Kazakhstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Armenia.

Among the honoured guests of the festival is Russian actor, director, and screenwriter, Honoured Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation Nikita Vysotskiy, son of Honoured Artist of the RSFSR Vladimir Vysotskiy. During his visit, N. Vysotskiy spoke to a «GA» correspondent about international cultural cooperation, the training of new personnel, and a performance brought to the capital of Turkmenistan.

N. Vysotskiy came to the festival with his group – fourth-year student directors from the Moscow state institute of culture (MGIK), most of whom are natives of Turkmenistan.

The festival program features young artists performing the play «Leningrad under the southern sky» on the stage of the Main academic drama theatre named after Saparmyrat Turkmenbashy.

«This is a responsible performance for the children, but also for us, the teachers. We are very excited, because our students are performing at such a mature, serious, and professional festival», – shared N. Vysotskiy.

The education of Turkmen students at leading Russian universities is part of a large-scale, long-term project to strengthen cultural ties. Its main goal is to enrich the national theatre scene with new creative content and to replenish theatre troupes, in particular the State russian drama theatre named after A.S. Pushkin in Ashgabat.

Currently, about 40 young specialists from Turkmenistan are studying in Moscow. These guys study not only at MGIK, but also at the Higher theatre school named after M.S. Shchepkin and GITIS (Russian institute of theatre arts). As our interlocutor emphasised, this cooperation has already yielded significant results and has great potential for further development.

In addition to participating in the festival program, N. Vysotskiy visited the Joint Turkmen-Russian secondary school named after A.S. Pushkin in Ashgabat, where he familiarised himself with its infrastructure and spoke with students.

When the kids asked him honestly what he dreamed of becoming as a child, the guest answered with a smile: «An astronaut or an ice cream seller». But over time, the main calling of his entire life became theatre and art.
