Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Conference of Mayors President Todd Gloria, Mayor of San Diego, released the following statement on the results of the 2026 Midterm Elections.

“Over the past several weeks, millions of Americans cast their votes for the leaders who will represent them at every level of government. This year’s results mark a historic moment: control of both chambers of Congress will change hands in January, and voters in communities across the country elected leaders who will be the first to break barriers in their states and offices.

“While the elections are over, there remains critical work to be done. The high cost of living remains one of the biggest challenges facing American families. Addressing this issue should be a top priority for the new Congress. Earlier this year, Congress passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act , a landmark bill that created new tools for making housing more affordable. But a law without funding is only a promise. Congress must now provide the resources to turn it into homes.

“America’s mayors remain ready to work with our partners at every level of government, from city hall to the state house to Capitol Hill. Voters sent a clear message last night that they expect their elected leaders to deliver results. Mayors are committed to answering that call.”
