With technical support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), healthcare workers in Turkmenistan took part in a three-day training course on using the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Pocket Book of Primary Health Care for Children and Adolescents. The training was conducted by UNICEF international expert Olena Starets.
The sessions focused on using the pocket book’s mobile application to support doctors in clinical decision-making and improve the quality of medical care provided to children and adolescents.
Through practical exercises and discussions of clinical cases, participants enhanced their knowledge and practical skills in treating childhood illnesses, administering vaccinations, providing nutritional counselling, supporting early childhood development, and promptly identifying conditions requiring emergency medical care.
The trained specialists also prepared to share the knowledge and experience they had gained with healthcare workers operating in the regions. This will help promote wider use of the pocket book in clinical practice.
UNICEF will continue its close cooperation with Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Health and Medical Industry, supporting the nationwide implementation of the WHO Pocket Book of Primary Health Care for Children and Adolescents.
The initiative aims to strengthen the capacities of primary healthcare professionals and expand every child’s access to high-quality healthcare services based on scientific evidence.
