Fly Geyser, located in the Black Rock Desert in the U.S. state of Nevada, is one of the world’s most beautiful natural wonders. This remarkable formation, created as a result of volcanic activity, periodically shoots jets of hot water into the air. According to available information, in 1916, local residents drilled a well while searching for water. Instead of drinking water, however, hot water emerged from the well.

The multicolored Fly Geyser, which formed in 1964, is one of the geological wonders that fascinates scientists. The temperature of the water spraying from Fly Geyser reaches 100 degrees. Because the water contains calcium carbonate, smooth-surfaced but uneven mounds measuring 3–4 meters in height have formed here. Heat-resistant algae grow on the surface of the rocks. These algae are responsible for the geyser’s green and red hues. The size and color of the rock formation change from year to year. The greenish-red and yellowish-brown mineral mounds resemble a coin-operated money box.
