Today, on October 27, a meeting of authorized representatives from the Caspian littoral states commenced at the Caspian Sea Institute in Ashgabat. The primary focus is the discussion of a draft agreement between the governments of the Caspian states concerning cooperation in the field of marine scientific research in the Caspian Sea. About this reports MFA of Turkmenistan.
The document is being prepared in accordance with an initiative put forward by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, during the Fifth Caspian Summit in Aktau on August 12, 2018. At that time, the Turkmen leader proposed the development of a separate five-party agreement that would establish a systematic framework for joint scientific research in the Caspian Sea.
Previous rounds of negotiations on this draft have confirmed the interest of all littoral states in developing a common approach. The current meeting is expected to facilitate further progress in finalizing the remaining provisions of the draft.
The work of the authorized representatives will conclude on October 28, 2026.
