A rare 1928 Bentley 4.5 Litre Sports Tourer has been discovered at a long-abandoned estate in Surrey, United Kingdom. Only 720 vehicles of this model were produced. According to experts, the value of such a historic automobile could reach several million dollars.
According to available information, despite remaining unused and without technical maintenance for many years, the car has retained its original bodywork, manufactured by Vanden Plas. The vehicle was purchased in 1935 and has remained in the possession of the same British family ever since. The family members preserved it as a valuable family heirloom.
An initial technical inspection revealed that the car is equipped with a naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine under the bonnet, featuring two carburettors and producing up to 110 horsepower.
The condition of the bodywork is the main concern for specialists. Its wooden frame and thin steel panels may have deteriorated due to prolonged exposure to environmental conditions.
According to available information, the car was probably originally painted black. However, it has not yet been established whether the original factory paintwork has survived or whether the vehicle was repainted at a later date.
Prices for similarly rare Bentley automobiles at auctions vary depending on their technical condition, history and uniqueness. For example, another 1928 model was sold at a Broad Arrow auction in May this year for approximately $400,000.
Another Bentley, bearing the number RL3427 and distinguished by an unbroken ownership history and matching chassis identification numbers, was sold at a Sotheby's auction in 2021 for $1.105 million.
No information has yet been released about the restoration work planned for the newly discovered vehicle or its final market value.
