The environmental policy of Turkmenistan is a key priority of the state strategy aimed at ensuring sustainable development of the country, preserving its natural resources, and creating comfortable living conditions for its citizens.
The fundamental foundations of this course were laid by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and acquired the status of the most important national task. Today, this noble and strategically significant work continues successfully under the wise leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, reaching a qualitatively new level thanks to the introduction of advanced «green» technologies and the consistent implementation of comprehensive environmental programs.
A clear confirmation of this commitment is the nationwide greening campaigns regularly held throughout the country as part of the National forestry program. This spring, a large-scale greening campaign was carried out with the active participation of residents from all regions of the country, during which hundreds of thousands of coniferous, deciduous, and fruit tree seedlings were planted. Active preparations are currently underway for the autumn tree planting campaign, which will allow for the continued expansion of green belts around cities and villages and improve the environmental situation.
Along with extensive work within the country, Turkmenistan is actively promoting its environmental agenda in the international arena. The First Caspian environmental summit, held in the «Avaza» National tourist zone, was a historically significant event, confirming high authority of the state in addressing pressing environmental issues. The summit discussed key issues related to preserving unique ecosystem of the Caspian sea, the careful use of its resources, and combating climate change, once again demonstrating key role of Turkmenistan in strengthening environmental cooperation in the region.
A special place in this activity is occupied by the preservation of biodiversity and the unique marine environment of the Caspian sea. The annual celebration of Caspian Sea Day on the 12 th of August, timed to coincide with the entry into force of the Tehran convention, has become a symbol of the careful attitude towards this natural pearl. In Turkmenistan, this day is celebrated at the highest state level and is accompanied by international scientific and practical conferences, exhibitions, and environmental events held in Avaza, aimed at drawing public attention to issues related to the protection of the Caspian basin and expanding multilateral dialogue.
