Şener Cebeci, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Türkiye to Turkmenistan, has announced that the number of tourists from Turkmenistan visiting Türkiye is expected to reach 250,000 by the end of 2026. The diplomat made the statement during a meeting with media representatives in Ashgabat.

The breakfast meeting, held at the Turkish Embassy in Ashgabat, was attended by embassy officials, a representative of Turkish Airlines in Turkmenistan, and journalists from local state-owned and private media outlets.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Şener Cebeci emphasized the importance of developing media cooperation between Turkmenistan and Türkiye. He highlighted the significance of a recent press tour to the Turkish cities of Çanakkale and Balıkesir, organized for Turkmen journalists. He noted that such initiatives help people gain a deeper understanding of the culture and history of both countries and strengthen mutual understanding between their peoples.

The meeting also featured an overview of developments in Türkiye’s tourism industry. According to the ambassador, Türkiye has become one of the world’s leading tourist destinations. While the country ranked eighth globally in international tourist arrivals in 2017, it rose to fourth place in 2024. In 2025, Türkiye welcomed nearly 64 million tourists, generating tourism revenue of 65 billion US dollars.

Şener Cebeci also noted that 151,000 tourists from Turkmenistan had visited Türkiye during the first eight months of 2026. The figure is expected to reach 250,000 by the end of the year.

The ambassador added that media cooperation between the two countries was also developing steadily. According to him, 14 press tours to Türkiye were organized for Turkmen journalists between 2023 and 2026, with representatives from a total of 84 media outlets taking part. These visits gave participants the opportunity to learn about Türkiye’s historical and cultural heritage, tourism potential, economic development, and public life.

Held in a friendly atmosphere, the meeting provided another indication of the mutual interest of Turkmenistan and Türkiye in expanding cooperation in tourism, culture, and the media.
