Transporting Turkmen natural gas to European markets through Türkiye’s gas pipeline network is one of the important future directions of energy cooperation between Turkmenistan and Türkiye. This was stated by Abdulvahit Fidan, General Director of Türkiye’s state-owned BOTAŞ company, during his address at the 31st international conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan — 2026” in Ashgabat.

The head of BOTAŞ emphasized that the delivery of Turkmen natural gas to Türkiye in 2025 marked an important step in the energy relations between the two countries. According to him, the experience gained in gas supply creates new opportunities to expand cooperation further and develop stable, long-term partnerships.

Abdulvahit Fidan also noted that strengthening cooperation in the energy sector had been discussed at the ninth meeting of the Intergovernmental Economic Commission, held in Ashgabat in June this year. He said that developing regional energy connectivity is one of the important priorities of Türkiye’s energy policy.

In this context, transporting Turkmen gas across the Caspian Sea to Türkiye and subsequently delivering it to European markets through the country’s developed gas pipeline infrastructure is of strategic importance. To implement these plans, gas producers, transport operators and consumers need to reach agreement on technical and commercial matters.

The head of BOTAŞ reaffirmed the company’s readiness to expand cooperation with its Turkmen partners and other interested parties. He expressed confidence that the company’s experience in natural gas supply, transportation and trading would be valuable in implementing joint projects.

The implementation of plans to deliver Turkmen gas to European markets through Türkiye could elevate energy cooperation between the two countries to a new level and help expand regional energy ties.

BOTAŞ is a Turkish state-owned energy company established in 1974. It operates the country’s main oil and gas pipeline networks and is involved in natural gas transportation and supply, as well as the development of cooperation in international energy markets.
