Kristin Robinson: Hello, and welcome to On The Record , a music business podcast from Billboard and SickBird Productions. As always, I’m your host, Kristen Robinson, and today we are here on a Monday on a special bonus episode of the podcast where we break down the biggest headlines of the past month.

Today, I’m going to be joined by executive editor of business, Dan Rys, once again to talk through those headlines and tell you guys what you need to know for the month ahead. Also, I wanted to make sure that you guys know that on Wednesday, we are going to be coming back with our regularly scheduled episode of the podcast. This week it’s going to be with Jason Lipshutz, who’s the co-chief content officer at Billboard , and we’re going to be talking about the business of boy bands and his new book on One Direction. So be sure to stay around for that, but let’s turn to my conversation with Dan. All right, Dan Rys, executive editor of business at Billboard , welcome back to the pod.

Dan Rys: Thank you so much for having me again.

Kristin Robinson: All right. OK, so we are going to do a monthly news breakdown, and we’re gonna break down four stories today. I’m gonna read those out for you guys now so you know what’s ahead. Um, so first things first, we’re gonna talk about UMG’s shakeup. They’ve had a lot of restructuring over there. Then we’re gonna talk about Summer Walker’s dispute with Interscope Records. Then we’ll talk about the copyright termination case that everyone is talking about. And finally, Goldman Sachs’ Music in the Air report is out, so we’ll get into those numbers as well. Um, but first, first things first, let’s talk about Universal Music Group and their new shakeup.
