Tate McRae Says She Didn’t Think Taylor Swift Enjoying ‘Tit for Tat’ Was Real

The singer also believes fans missed the Easter egg hints she's been dropping heading into her new era.

A new era is on the horizon for Tate McRae. The Canadian pop star stopped by The Tonight Show on Wednesday (Oct. 7), where she talked about Taylor Swift being a fan of “Tit for Tat,” her upcoming “Housewife” single and more.

Apparently, McRae didn’t initially believe headlines about Swift gushing about her top five Billboard Hot 100 hit last year, and she scrambled to find the clip of the pop supernova on social media.

“I was getting a whole bunch of texts and I was trying to find it. I couldn’t really find it. I was like, ‘What the hell? This must be real — trying to find proof,'” she said as host Jimmy Fallon ribbed her about not watching the show.

McRae shared had no idea Swift was aware of her work. “I never talked to her or knew that she knew my music,” she added. “It was a cool day. It was amazing.”

T-Swift made the comments about “Tit for Tat” during an October 2025 appearance on The Tonight Show as she promoted her then newly released The Life of a Showgirl album.

“Oh, Tate McRae has a great new song called ‘Tit For Tat,’ you gotta listen to it,” she said at the time. “Like, full volume, over and over again on repeat. It’s just so good.”

The 23-year-old is set to launch her next era with “Housewife,” which is slated to arrive next Thursday (Oct. 15). “It’s kind of about a woman that can’t be contained. We shot it in the South of France and it was so magical,” she said of the song.

McRae believes her Tater Tots missed the boat on nuggets she’s dropped about the single in recent months, pointing to her headlining set at Lollapalooza over the summer. “My fans, in particular, we drop Easter eggs all the time, and they get none of them. They always catch onto things that are completely wrong,” she said. “This was literally in my Lolla set, it said ‘Housewife’ when the set started.”

McRae’s Lollapalooza show appeared to find her teasing a snippet of an upcoming song, and was most memorable for her golden dip to close out the Grant Park performance in August.

Tate McRae’s last album, So Close to What , was released in February 2025. It topped the Billboard 200 with 177,000 total album-equivalent units earned, according to Luminate.
