Representatives of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan studied approaches to customs digitalisation and the implementation of advanced technologies during a working visit to the Kingdom of the Netherlands.

The visit was organised under the programme “Facilitating Trade in Central Asia / Enhancing the Potential of the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor”, funded jointly by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the European Union.

The main objective was to explore digital solutions and innovative working methods used by Dutch institutions recognised for their advanced approaches to modernising customs procedures.

As part of the programme, the Turkmen delegation took part in several working meetings. The specialists learned about research at Delft University of Technology on big data processing and the development of secure trade corridors. They also visited the Central Administration of the Dutch Customs Service and the Port of Rotterdam, where they examined modern risk-analysis systems and the capabilities of advanced inspection and scanning equipment.

Particular attention was paid to information technologies powered by artificial intelligence. Dutch experts demonstrated solutions for automatically classifying goods according to the commodity nomenclature used in foreign economic activity, digitising document workflows and speeding up customs clearance.

The knowledge and practical experience gained during the visit are expected to support the modernisation of Turkmenistan’s customs system, strengthen the country’s transit transport potential and simplify international trade procedures.
