Media Buying Briefing: With so much at stake, midterm election spending is insane
Digiday ·
With a record $11.6 billion expected to be spent once all votes are cast and counted, this midterm election season is like none ever experienced before.
You know it has been the craziest midterm political season when, under the guise of “U.S. Government,” the White House — the United States’ federal seat of power — is running a campaign touting President Trump’s accomplishments when he isn’t running. Critics call the unprecedented move an abuse of power, while the White House calls it a “public service announcement.”
Whichever side of the political spectrum you sit on, it’s another $20 million or so pumped into an already red-hot market for political advertising, which is on track to break spending records to the tune of nearly $12 billion. (The estimate is $11.6 billion according to AdImpact, but hey, what’s $400 million among attack ads?)
