A certificate-awarding ceremony was held in Ashgabat for doctors who successfully completed the national training programme on intensive care for newborns and young children. Implemented in 2025–2026 by the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan with technical support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the programme involved more than 300 doctors and other healthcare professionals from all regions of the country.
The programme brought together neonatologists, anaesthesiologists and intensive care specialists, obstetrician-gynaecologists, as well as lecturers from higher medical education institutions. Alongside theoretical classes, participants took part in practical training sessions at the National Simulation Centre and leading medical institutions in the capital and the regions.
The specialists learned how to respond to complex clinical situations and mastered modern algorithms for providing emergency medical care. They also had the opportunity to learn from the experience of international experts from Belarus.
One of the programme’s key outcomes was the introduction of 12 new standard operating procedures for the recovery and care of critically ill children at leading medical institutions across the country.
In addition, groups of national trainers who have undergone specialised training were established in the regions. They will continue teaching other doctors in their respective areas modern treatment methods. This initiative is aimed at ensuring the continuous professional development of healthcare specialists and improving the quality of medical services.
These efforts will contribute to strengthening the capacity of the national healthcare system under the 2026–2030 Country Programme of Cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNICEF.
