Kazakhstan’s international TV channels, Silk Way and Silk Way Cinema, are expected to begin broadcasting in Turkmenistan. The two countries also plan to establish a permanent joint media council to strengthen media cooperation and expand information exchange.
Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan are taking a new step toward developing cooperation in the mass media sector and expanding information exchange between the two countries. As part of these efforts, the establishment of a joint, permanent media council between the two countries is planned, along with the launch of broadcasting in Turkmenistan by Kazakhstan’s international television channels “Silk Way” and “Silk Way Cinema.” This was reported by Ratel Media.
The relevant agreement was signed on October 8, 2026, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. The document was signed by representatives of the Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the State Committee of Turkmenistan for Television, Radio Broadcasting and Cinematography.
The planned media council will be one of the first joint structures designed to ensure ongoing cooperation between the two countries in the mass media sector. The new mechanism is expected to help strengthen professional ties between state television and radio companies and expand the exchange of experience in information and media content.
The international television channel “Silk Way” introduces foreign audiences to events taking place in Kazakhstan, Central Asia and other regions of the world. “Silk Way Cinema” specializes in broadcasting films.
Both channels are part of the Television and Radio Complex of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The complex also includes the national television channel “Jibek Joly,” the radio station of the same name, the international television channel “Silk Way Prime,” the “Kazinform” news agency, the Documentary Film Center and the digital division “TRKLAB.”
The implementation of the new agreement could contribute to the development of relations between Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan in the mass media sector, the mutual enrichment of the two countries’ information spaces, and expanded access for viewers to international media content.
