The Turkmenistan Investment Forum (TIF 2026), being held in Ashgabat, has become an important platform bringing together government representatives, diplomats and heads of development institutions from various countries to discuss future areas of economic cooperation.
Representatives of the United Kingdom, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Türkiye who spoke at the forum noted that cooperation with Turkmenistan extends beyond investment and also covers areas such as the introduction of modern technologies, professional training, integration into international supply chains, and the development of multimodal transport and logistics opportunities between Asia and Europe.
Stephen Conlon, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Turkmenistan, said in his speech that Turkmenistan’s economy needs partners capable of offering technologies, skilled personnel, international legal expertise and access to global financial markets at the same time.
According to the diplomat, the British side is offering the capabilities of UK Export Finance (UKEF), the country’s export credit agency, in this area. The agency can provide guarantees of up to 85 percent of the value of major contracts, as well as direct financing of up to £200 million. It can also finance research and feasibility studies at the initial stages of projects.
In cooperation between British business groups and Turkmenistan, particular attention is being paid to transport, water resource management, renewable energy, mineral processing and comprehensive engineering.
Armenia’s Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan noted that the effectiveness of investments is determined by the growth of production capacity and the development of human capital.
Armenia views Turkmenistan as one of the important energy and transit transport hubs of the Caspian region. At the same time, the Armenian side is offering opportunities for access to the Eurasian Economic Union market, the use of technological solutions, and the development of trade and economic relations with the European Union.
The speech also highlighted the TRIPP multimodal transport route within the framework of Armenia’s “Crossroads of Peace” initiative. Its implementation could provide Turkmenistan and Central Asian countries with an additional transport route from the South Caucasus through the ports of the Caspian Sea to Türkiye and Europe. The route could also be connected with the International North–South Transport Corridor through Iran.
Ravshanbek Sabirov, Director of the National Investment Agency under the President of Kyrgyzstan, emphasized that the economic development of Central Asian countries is interconnected.
He provided information on major initiatives being implemented in Kyrgyzstan, including the “Asman City” eco-city, the “Tamchy” special economic zone being established under English law, and the opportunities offered by the China–Kyrgyzstan–Uzbekistan railway.
The Kyrgyz representative identified green energy, the supply of petroleum products and natural gas, telecommunications, the textile industry, logistics and tourism as promising areas for investment projects together with partners from Turkmenistan.
The Kyrgyz side also stated its readiness to provide Turkmen investors with comprehensive support based on the “one-stop shop” principle.
Mahmut Gürcan, Deputy Minister of Trade of Türkiye, said that changes taking place in global trade are also affecting logistics strategies. According to him, geopolitical circumstances are encouraging companies to move from the “just-in-time” supply model to approaches such as “just-in-case”, “nearshoring” and “friend-shoring”, which are aimed at increasing the resilience of supply chains.
Under these conditions, new opportunities for further deepening strategic cooperation between Türkiye and Turkmenistan were highlighted.
Turkish companies are already operating in Turkmenistan’s textile, construction, energy and processing industries. There is now growing interest in further expanding technological and industrial cooperation.
The Turkish representative highlighted the potential of the Galkynysh gas field and the importance of the Turkmenbashi International Seaport, emphasizing the need to develop warehouse complexes and logistics centers and to digitalize customs procedures.
These measures are expected to help reduce the impact of potential disruptions in supply chains and contribute to achieving the goal set by the heads of the two countries to increase bilateral trade turnover to US$5 billion.
The speeches delivered within the framework of TIF 2026 demonstrated that investment, technology, logistics infrastructure and interregional economic connectivity are playing an increasingly important role in Turkmenistan’s international cooperation.
