Billboard ·

Director Sue Kim's film about a year in the life of the K-pop superstar will hit IMAX and cinemas worldwide on Oct. 12.
BLACKPINK ‘s LISA was used to doing things a certain way for most of her music career. But when she started breaking out on her own to launch a solo era apart from the K-pop girl group sensation, all of a sudden she realized she was going to shake up much more than the group dynamic.
“When I was in Korea, I had only worked with one producer for many years,” the singer says in the latest trailer for her upcoming solo documentary, Always Lalisa , which dropped on Monday morning (Oct. 5). “But, for the first time, I had to find producers and songwriters on my own outside Korea. I was kind of out of my comfort zone.”
The doc, which chronicles 29-year-old LISA’s break from BLACKPINK to focus on her own music and acting outside of the group that also features JENNIE, ROSÉ and JISOO, will hit IMAX and cinemas around the world for a limited theatrical release on Saturday (Oct. 12). It follows the star as he writes, records and releases her debut solo album, Alter Ego , films her acting debut on the third season of the hit HBO series The White Lotus and preps for her first major solo performance at 2025’s Coachella Festival.
The latest trailer for the film directed by Sue Kim ( The Last of the Sea Women ) follows Lisa into the studio, where she hunkers down to work with a whole new creative team in search of the right sounds for her solo endeavors.
We see her meet British producer/songwriter Sammy Soso (A*Pop, Tyla), who reveals that when they first teamed up in the studio, the “Money” the rapper/singer wouldn’t even speak directly to him, which he thought was hilarious, and sweet. Similarly, producer/songwriter Kuk Harrell (Rihanna, Beyoncé) said LISA admitted that she’d never had an outside vocal producer work with her outside of the team employed by BLACKPINK.
“[So I said] ‘Well, let’s just jump in and see what we got,'” Harrell says he told her. LISA explains that she was shy with both men because she didn’t really know them and was embarrassed to show off her vocal skills. “I think I lacked confidence,” she says.
We definitely see her question her skills in the 90-second clip, in which Harrell also gives her a pep talk as LISA tries to dial in her singing and work on lyrics in the studio.
