Managed by Caltech, JPL is NASA’s only federally funded research and development center (FFRDC). It was created to take on challenges no other single organization can, from landing rovers on Mars to exploring the far reaches of the solar system. NOJMO stewards this one-of-a-kind partnership on NASA’s behalf, so JPL’s world-class talent can focus on missions that define America’s leadership in space.

Focus Areas A leader in robotic space exploration, JPL has sent rovers to Mars, probes to our solar system’s farthest reaches, telescopes into space to study the universe, and satellites into Earth orbit to better understand our home planet.
Studying Earth from land, air, sea, and space to better understand and manage our dynamic planet.
Solar System Creating robotic explorers throughout our solar system to study the complex processes that have shaped the worlds within it and whether life exists elsewhere.
Asteroids and Comets Pinpointing the paths of comets and asteroids that may pass close to Earth.
Universe Exploring the deepest reaches of the universe to understand the forces that shape it and to search for new worlds beyond our solar system.
Technology Developing technology to further our exploration of the universe and improve life on Earth.
Learn About JPL Science drives everything JPL does. NASA’s Science Mission Directorate works to uncover how the universe began, how it evolves, and where it is headed, along with the strange phenomena that shape it. JPL is where many of those questions take flight, designing and operating the robotic explorers that reach across the solar system and study the universe beyond.
