ROSES-27 is expected to solicit proposals through approximately 50 program elements spanning astrophysics, biological and physical sciences, Earth science, heliophysics, lunar science, planetary science, and cross-disciplinary research.
The President’s National Space Policy calls for research investments that advance near-term mission objectives while enabling the discoveries essential to America’s long-term science and technology leadership. NASA’s Ignition initiatives bring that direction into focus: accelerate discovery, connect science with exploration, and draw on the capabilities of researchers, industry, and partners nationwide. ROSES-27 will be an important avenue for engaging the research community in these goals.
Preparing ROSES-27 also reflects NASA’s emphasis on getting Faster to Science. The Science Mission Directorate is putting that emphasis into practice through clear research opportunities and an efficient path from promising ideas to scientific work. These efforts complement NASA’s Golden Age of Science initiatives announced October 8 , which focus on strengthening scientific review and research practices and supporting the next generation of researchers.
In addition, NASA continues to add opportunities to the current edition of ROSES, including research in the cryosphere and geosphere, planetary science facilities, astrophysics theory and observations, and heliophysics spaceflight science and low-cost access to space.
NASA recognizes that timely information is essential for researchers and institutions planning proposals, building teams, and supporting students and early-career scientists. Communicating the planned release window now supports that preparation and affirms the research community’s central role in achieving the nation’s science and exploration objectives.
