Chinese tech giants DeepSeek and Huawei announced a partnership to develop semiconductor software, part of an array of efforts to reduce China’s reliance on US chipmakers and challenge American AI dominance.
Though US firms are widely seen as leading the hardware and software race surrounding AI, the scales are tipping: China’s Alibaba recently unveiled what it said was the country’s most powerful chip ever, a major memory chipmaker said it was mass-producing new designs to challenge industry heavyweights, and Chinese researchers said they were making progress in building highly advanced semiconductors, despite US restrictions on them accessing cutting-edge chipmaking equipment.
“ We cannot accept a destiny where we cannot control our fate ,” Huawei’s chairman said at a company conference last month.
