Audi, the automaker owned by Germany’s Volkswagen Group, plans to build its first manufacturing plant in the United States in Macon, Georgia. The company intends to invest approximately $4 billion in the project.
US President Donald Trump initially cited an investment figure of $4.2 billion. Audi subsequently confirmed its plans to build the new facility and announced that the investment would amount to $4 billion.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with production expected to start in the early 2030s. According to the company, the new plant is expected to create approximately 4,500 jobs.
The facility will have an estimated annual production capacity of around 200,000 vehicles. According to Reuters, the plant is expected to manufacture the Audi Q7, Q8 and Q9 SUV models.
Donald Trump described the project as one of the major recent investments in the US automotive industry. He said that the existing tariffs had influenced the company’s decision.
In April 2025, the United States increased tariffs on vehicles manufactured in Europe from 2.5% to 27.5%. Following the conclusion of a trade agreement between the United States and the European Union, the rate was reduced to 15%.
The new plant is intended to expand Audi’s manufacturing capacity in the United States and strengthen its position in the North American market.
