At the Azatlyk Farmers’ Association in Kerki District, Lebap Region, hardworking tenant farmers are setting an example in growing abundant crops. Among them is the Kerimov family, which has harvested nearly 35 tonnes of cotton from its 8-hectare leased plot.
When speaking about the association’s leading tenant farmers, experienced team leader Atamyrat Atanyyazow mentions this family first. The condition of the cotton plants on the Kerimovs’ leased land clearly demonstrates the results of their dedicated work. Many of the plants are over one metre tall, with around 40 cotton bolls and other fruiting structures on each. So far, only 8–10 bolls have been picked from them, meaning that a considerable amount of cotton remains to be harvested in the field.
The four members of the family — Shohrat Kerimov, his son Döwletgeldi, his daughter-in-law Sheker, and his mother Guljemile eje — manage their farming activities together. Each person’s responsibilities are determined in advance. Shohrat Kerimov, who has received specialized agricultural education, also draws on his mother’s many years of experience.
When Guljemile eje visits the leased plot, she examines the condition of the cotton plants and identifies which areas need irrigation and where fertilizer should be applied. She is now passing her accumulated knowledge on to her grandson Döwletgeldi as well. In this way, the finer points of farming are passed down from one generation to the next within the family.
The Kerimov family also pays particular attention to combining organic and mineral fertilizers when caring for the cotton plants. They use urea together with well-rotted manure. The manure is placed in an irrigation ditch along the edge of the field and carried by the irrigation water to different parts of the leased plot.
The farmers’ dedication, experience-based approach and family unity help them achieve abundant harvests year after year. The Kerimov family’s example highlights the importance of productive agricultural work and a responsible attitude towards the land.
