A meeting with American scholar Daniel Weiss was held at the State Museum of the State Cultural Centre of Turkmenistan. He arrived in Turkmenistan to conduct professional development courses for staff of museums and research institutes on digitising and documenting museum collections. The news was reported on the State Museum’s official website.

During the meeting, Daniel Weiss delivered a presentation entitled “Information and Digitisation.” Drawing on examples from his own experience, he explained the importance of converting museum objects into digital formats, the methods used in this field, and their role in preserving historical heritage.

Before the meeting, the American specialist viewed historical and archaeological exhibits held at the State Museum. He highlighted the considerable scientific value of the archaeological finds displayed in the museum’s exhibitions. He also noted that maps, photographs and informational materials were used appropriately and professionally, helping to better illustrate the significance of the exhibits.

Daniel Weiss travelled to Turkmenistan with the support of the Fulbright grant programme, funded by the US government. During his visit, he also plans to explore the country’s historical and cultural monuments.

The training courses for museum specialists are expected to support the documentation of cultural heritage using modern methods, the digital preservation of information about museum collections, and improved access to this information for future generations.
