Executive Turntable: ASCAP Names Jason Wagener SVP/Head of General Licensing; Mariah Carey’s Black Irish Hires CMO

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) announced Jackson Wagener has been named senior vp and head of general licensing, effective Jan. 1, 2027. Wagener will report to Stephanie Ruyle , ASCAP’s executive vp and head of licensing.
“Jackson pairs a deep legal expertise with a clear sense of what licensees want and music creators need in today’s world,” Ruyle said in a statement. “In a rapidly changing market, he is uniquely equipped to pioneer the kind of innovative licensing solutions that make it easier than ever for businesses to utilize music, while ensuring songwriters are fairly compensated for performances of their work.”
Wagener added, “As technology reshapes the music landscape, ASCAP keeps evolving and innovating to deliver more value for our business partners and our songwriter members. I am thrilled to join the incredibly talented general licensing team at a time when their work matters more than ever to the music creators we represent.”
Wagener has been with ASCAP for the last 12 years, and has served as senior vp, business and legal affairs at the organization since 2020. Within Wagener’s role, he manages the ASCAP’s implementation and deployment of their nationwide copyright infringement litigation program against general licensing, broadcast, television and the internet. He first joined the ASCAP in their New York office in January 2014 as vp, business and legal affairs. He graduated from Columbia Law School and holds an M.A. in sociology and a B.A. in human biology from Stanford. — Ariel King
