Rick Ross (born William Roberts) was arrested in Miami Beach on Thursday morning (Oct. 1) on a pair of battery charges, including battery by strangulation charge, according to Miami-Dade County jail records.
Rozay’s record shows both counts are domestic violence-related charges, and the rapper was given a $5,000 bond. Ross was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. ET on Thursday.
CBS News reported that Ross will be arraigned on Oct. 22. “All I can say is that the allegations are false. He’s innocent. Everything is going to come out,” Rozay’s attorney, Bradley Horenstein, told the outlet. “We just ask that you allow the process to play out before rushing to judgment, because the truth will come in.”
According to NBC News , which cited the arrest report, the victim — who has been in a relationship with Rozay — reported the alleged incident on Tuesday (Sept. 29), and claimed that it occurred on Aug. 28. She said that the rapper accused her of being involved with someone else and slapped her each time she denied it. The report also said that he hit her multiple times, choked her until she couldn’t breathe, and also slammed her head against the wall.
Police also said the victim provided photographic evidence of her injuries that included timestamps that appeared to corroborate her report of when the alleged attacked occurred, NBC News reported.
Billboard has reached out to Rick Ross’ attorney and reps, as well as the Miami Beach Police Department.
The charges come just days after Ross’ ex, Jazzma Kendrick, appeared to publicly accuse the rapper of domestic violence. She posted photos to her IG Story of the alleged abuse, which were captured by People .
She wrote: “I don’t know a lot of things, but I do know that a man that puts his hands on me is a man that never loved me and never will.”
