VA’s Federal EHR introduces 15 improvements to support Veteran care this fall

VA News ·

VA has introduced 15 enhancements across platforms, capabilities, and interfaces to the Federal EHR, making daily work easier for clinicians and staff.

VA sites and affiliated locations that have gone live with the Federal Electronic Health Record (EHR) recently began receiving the largest set of system improvements since VA began releasing upgrades in October 2022. This milestone introduced 15 new or updated enhancements across platforms, capabilities, and interfaces to the Federal EHR, making daily work easier for clinicians and staff, with little to no downtime.

VA routinely delivers quarterly upgrades to keep the Federal EHR current. Rather than large, disruptive updates, these quarterly releases arrive in smaller, predictable bundles. This approach keeps technology modern, reduces downtime and gets new tools into clinicians’ hands as soon as they are ready.

Here are a few additions from this major release, which began on Sept. 23, 2026:

Together, these enhancements reflect the purpose of the regular upgrades: steady, meaningful improvements that support clinicians and strengthen care for Veterans.

As new features roll out, VA ensures clinicians have the support they need to use them effectively. Tip sheets, quick reference guides, demos and site‑specific support help staff get familiar with the enhancements quickly. In September 2026, clinicians also participated in three “Demos and Dialogue” sessions, giving them a real‑world look at the enhancements and practical guidance from experts.

When providers understand their tools, Veterans benefit from a more seamless care experience.
