‘Nothing Short of Extraordinary’: Powderfinger Pledges Encore Dates After Reunion Tour Sells Out
Billboard ·
More than 300,000 tickets were snapped up for next years’ comeback run, reps say.
It’s official: Powderfinger ’s reunion tour is Australia’s hottest ticket.
Following Monday’s general public onsale , upwards of 300,000 tickets were snapped up for next years’ comeback run, reps say.
That means every seat across the rockers’ 26-date 2027 national tour is completely sold out, besting the onsale for Powderfinger’s 2010 Sunsets Farewell Tour.
“It’s a staggering show of love for a band whose songs have soundtracked so many lives, and a clear sign that this reunion tour means as much to the fans as it does to the band,” reads a statement from the band.
With that show of love, Powderfinger will lock in more shows in “select destinations that allows as many people as possible to get their hands on tickets.”
As previously reported, the beloved Australian rock band will embark on a rare jaunt next year, pre-sales for which opened last Wednesday, Oct. 14 . The 18 coast-to-coast concerts that were initially announced for September and October 2027, quickly grew to 26 with dates extending into November.
“We know many of you missed out and we know how disappointing that is,” reads a statement from the band, issued following Monday’s general onsale. Please know we hear you, and we have your back. Right now, the team is locking in one final encore run of shows that will close out this tour and we’ll share the details as soon as they’re confirmed.”
In the meantime, the message continues, “we ask for just a little more patience. Please don’t lose heart. Bringing extra dates together takes time but we’re working as hard and as fast as we can to make sure as many people as possible can be there for what promises to be a truly special moment in Australian music.”
Hailing from Brisbane, the 2032 Olympic City, the ‘Finger, as they’re affectionately known in these parts, was one of the elite bands of their era, one that produced five consecutive ARIA No. 1 albums, 18 ARIA Awards and three APRA Awards, including a brace for song of the year.
Powderfinger called time with that 34-date national trek back in 2010. The music never stopped. When triple j invited Australians to vote for the greatest homegrown songs of all time, for a countdown in July 2025, Powderfinger clocked up more songs in the top 100 (four, including a Fanning solo number) than any other act.
Still elite. And proof, perhaps, that the band’s music had become the soundtrack, too, for younger generations that never saw them in action.
When the classic lineup of Bernard Fanning (vocals), Ian Haug (guitars), Darren Middleton (guitars), John “JC” Collins (bass) and Jon Coghill (drums) hit the road, they’ll do so with an all-Australian lineup, performing in green spaces under a “big tent.”
“We are still gobsmacked by the response to this tour,” comments Fanning on behalf of his bandmates.
“A few weeks ago I was in the ballot for Radiohead tickets. It was BLOODY STRESSFUL and I was eventually lucky enough to be able to buy some. So I understand what a difficult process it can be when you’re trying to juggle work, kids and life in general. So, we are going to put together another string of shows in select destinations that allows as many people as possible to get their hands on tickets.”
Powderfinger’s 2027 tour will partner with Mission Australia , an organization that supports the most vulnerable people in the country. Dew Process Artist Management, Cornershop Agency and Live Nation are partnering on the trek.
“Please keep the faith and be patient,” says Fanning to fans eager to secure a ticket to the show. “We are just as excited to see YOU as you are to see us.”
