“It’s such a beautiful full-circle moment," said the 33-year-old of working with his favorite football team.

Ghanaian singer-songwriter King Promise is bringing his lifelong love of Chelsea F.C. into his music with new track “Can’t Tame Us (Chelsea Anthem),” which arrives alongside a mini-documentary. The track is billed as a “ love letter” to the London football club and an ode to its supporters across Africa. It will feature in the playlist at fixtures throughout the season, and has been released as part of the Premier League team’s “London to the World” campaign, which is “celebrating the communities that make up the club’s global family.”

The accompanying music video for “Can’t Tame Us” was directed by Derrick Arthur and filmed across locations for the Rent Paid Football Tournament in Accra, Ghana, where King Promise and Chelsea F.C. brought the club’s new home kit to Africa for the first time, alongside the Nungua SDA Park. King Promise founded Rent Paid to fundraise for local community charities, including the Nungua Orphanage, which provides support to those under 16 in the area.

Speaking to Billboard U.K. , the 33-year-old described how this relationship with Chelsea F.C. dates back to the early 2000s, when he was growing up in Accra and watching the club’s rise under manager José Mourinho and owner Roman Abramovich. Ghanaian midfielder Michael Essien, who joined Chelsea F.C. from Lyon in 2005, also inspired his passion for the club.

“I already had love for the Premier League,” he says, of becoming a fan of Essien. “But that’s when I stamped it. I stamped it on my chest that I’ll forever be a Chelsea fan.” Before pursuing music professionally, King Promise dreamed of becoming a footballer and representing Ghana’s national team at the World Cup. “Back home in Nungua, football was all we knew,” he continues. “It was the only sport we were in a hurry to close school to play or even watch.” The highlife and Afrobeats artist signed with Sony Music UK in London five years ago, and has released three studio albums to date alongside See What We’ve Done , a collaborative album with Nigerian producer Mr Eazi, which landed earlier this year. King Promise has been based in the capital since he landed his record deal, and he describes the new partnership with Chelsea F.C. as a “perfect combination” of his worlds, as his artistic output focuses largely on representing Ghana on a global scale. “It’s such a beautiful full-circle moment to even be in contact with this great club and do such amazing work together,” he adds. The mini-documentary focuses on Chelsea F.C.’s continued engagement with its African fanbase, with King Promise seeing an opportunity to help connect the club with supporters on the continent. It was filmed at the club’s homeground, Stamford Bridge, and at grounds, schools and parks across Nungua, showing where the artist grew up and fell in love with football.

“This collaboration for me represents every kid in Ghana, every kid across Africa,” King Promise explains. “If I could start from Nungua and stand on the pitch at Stamford Bridge and have my music play in the stadium, just know that anything is possible.”
