Google has unveiled the new Fitbit Edge fitness watch, designed to monitor health metrics, track workouts, and provide personalised recommendations with the help of artificial intelligence. The device features an OLED display, works with Gemini AI technology, and stands out for its replaceable battery.
The new fitness watch will go on sale on 27 October. Its starting price will be $180.
The Fitbit Edge supports Google Health Coach, a service powered by Gemini artificial intelligence technology. Through a Google Health Premium subscription, the user’s health metrics and physical activity data are analysed. Based on this information, personalised workout plans are created and updated according to the user’s daily routine.
The device can track more than 50 types of workouts. It also provides real-time visual guidance during exercise.
According to the company, the GPS accuracy of the new watch has improved by 40 per cent compared with previous generations. The accuracy of sleep-stage detection has increased by 15 per cent.
The Fitbit Edge is equipped with the Health Guardian system, designed to detect significant changes in health indicators. Continuous heart-rate monitoring and the electrocardiogram (ECG) function allow users to receive alerts about certain changes in heart rhythm.
However, the readings provided by the fitness watch do not replace medical examinations or advice from a healthcare professional.
One of the main features of the new device is its replaceable battery. According to the available information, the watch can operate for up to one week on a full charge. A complete battery charge takes 90 minutes. A five-minute charge provides enough power for one day of use.
The device’s casing is rated IP68 for water and dust resistance. Its OLED display shows health metrics and workout information.
The Fitbit Edge fitness watch is available for pre-order in four colour options. There is also a special basketball-themed version called the Stephen Curry Edition. Its price starts at $220.
Google is also offering customers who purchase the new watch three months of free access to Google Health Premium.
The new model is intended to expand the capabilities of smart wearable devices designed to monitor health metrics, plan sports workouts, and analyse daily physical activity.
