Turkmenistan’s environmental policy is one of the key areas of the country’s state strategy, which aims to ensure sustainable development, preserve natural resources and create favourable living conditions for the population. Respect for nature, maintaining a clean environment and preserving ecological balance are the main objectives of efforts in this field.

The initiatives launched at the initiative of Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, the National Leader of the Turkmen People and Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, are continuing under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The introduction of advanced green technologies, the rational use of natural resources and the implementation of comprehensive programmes remain important priorities of the country’s environmental policy.

Regular tree-planting ceremonies held across the country under the National Forest Programme are a clear example of these efforts. During mass planting campaigns organised in the spring of this year, hundreds of thousands of coniferous, deciduous and fruit trees were planted. Preparations are now under way for the autumn tree-planting season. These initiatives aim to expand green areas around cities and villages, improve the natural environment and strengthen the ecological conditions of populated areas.

Turkmenistan also attaches particular importance to developing international cooperation in environmental protection. The First Caspian Environmental Summit, held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, was an important event in strengthening regional cooperation on nature conservation. The summit addressed key issues, including the preservation of the Caspian Sea’s unique ecosystem, the sustainable use of its resources and efforts to combat climate change.

Protecting the Caspian Sea’s biodiversity and marine environment is another important element of Turkmenistan’s environmental policy. Celebrated annually on August 12, Caspian Sea Day provides an opportunity to draw public attention to the protection of this unique natural resource. In Turkmenistan, the date is marked by international scientific and practical conferences, exhibitions and environmental activities held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. These initiatives help facilitate the exchange of experience in protecting the Caspian Sea basin and promote broader cooperation.

Environmental protection efforts at both national and international levels form an important part of Turkmenistan’s strategy to preserve natural resources for future generations, strengthen ecological sustainability and expand regional cooperation.
