Turkmenistan and Iran intend to expand cooperation in road and rail transport and increase the transit capacity of regional transport corridors. The relevant authorities of both countries are stepping up efforts to implement previously reached agreements.
This was announced by Iran’s Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadeghi, during her visit to Turkmenistan. According to the Vesti Kavkaza publication, the minister said that some progress had been made in developing rail links between the two countries, particularly in improving the operations of border terminals.
One of the key areas of cooperation is a project to build a new highway on Turkmenistan’s territory. An Iranian company is expected to carry out the construction. The new road is expected to improve the efficiency of freight transportation and, in particular, facilitate the movement of Iranian truck drivers.
In addition, Turkmenistan and Iran intend to step up cooperation in the energy sector. The two sides also plan to consider the development of regional transport initiatives involving Azerbaijan and Russia.
Expanding cooperation in these areas could help strengthen economic ties among countries in the region, create new opportunities for international freight transportation and increase the transit capacity of transport corridors.
