The main objective of the forum was to discuss prospects for increasing trade turnover between the two countries and intensifying investment cooperation.
Participants included Azat Nazarov, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan; Bandaru Wilsonbabu, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Turkmenistan; representatives of the Indian diaspora; media professionals; and the heads and senior executives of more than 30 leading Indian companies operating in mining, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, transport, banking, and construction.
Addressing the forum, Indian Ambassador Bandaru Wilsonbabu highlighted the attractiveness of the Turkmen market to Indian investors. He stated that, as a result of economic reforms implemented over the past twelve years, India’s gross domestic product growth rate had reached approximately 7.5 percent. He noted that India is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies and aims to become the world’s third-largest economy in the near future.
According to the diplomat, India regards Turkmenistan as a friendly and reliable partner. The two countries share historical, cultural, and civilizational ties. He expressed confidence that cooperation between the two countries would continue to develop under the leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, and National Leader of the Turkmen People Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
Azat Nazarov, Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan, also emphasized the importance of increasing bilateral trade volumes and implementing new joint projects.
The forum highlighted the work of the Turkmen-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation as one of the key mechanisms for coordinating and strengthening ties between the business communities of the two countries.
