Between 2022 and 2025, the former executive officer allegedly used a court-issued credit card and submitted falsified reimbursement requests to cover personal expenses. “Public officials have a responsibility to safeguard taxpayer dollars. When those who are trusted with public funds misuse them for personal gain, they will be held accountable,” said Attorney General Bonta . “My office will continue to investigate and prosecute public corruption to protect the integrity of our institutions and the Californians they serve.” In October 2024, Lassen Superior Court employees identified questionable transactions involving court-issued credit and fuel cards. The concerns were reported to the court’s presiding judge, who subsequently notified the LassenCounty Sheriff’s Office. In July 2025, at the request of the Lassen County District Attorney’s Office, the California Department of Justice assumed responsibility for completing the investigation. Investigators reviewed court financial records, reimbursement requests, and internal purchasing procedures and interviewed witnesses. The investigation identified approximately $14,285 in allegedly unauthorized expenditures involving personal purchase and reimbursement requests. It is important to note that charges are merely allegations. All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
