LiquidStack unveils liquid-cooling platform targeting AI data centers

LiquidStack , a Trane Technologies business, has introduced a new configurable coolant distribution unit (CDU) platform designed to help data center operators deploy and scale liquid cooling as AI accelerator performance and rack densities continue to increase. The company unveiled the LiquidStack CDU 2.X at Yotta 2026 in Ireland. The architecture-agnostic platform is designed to support multiple generations of AI processors with a common CDU architecture, reducing the need for server vendors to redesign cooling infrastructure with every new platform that comes out. LiquidStack said CDU 2.X can deliver flow rates of up to 3,750 liters per minute at 3.5 bar, which the company says is enough to support current high-performance GPU platforms while providing additional cooling headroom for higher-density systems. “Operators need cooling infrastructure that can adapt as GPU platforms and rack densities evolve,” said Scott Smith , general manager of LiquidStack, in a statement. “CDU 2.X combines the performance and flexibility customers need today with the headroom to prepare for what comes next, allowing them to configure cooling around their facility and deployment strategy rather than designing the facility around the CDU.” A key feature is the platform’s support for different deployment configurations, including end-of-row and rack-adjacent installations. The idea is to give data center operators more flexibility in how they place their equipment with increasingly high thermal loads. The system offers configurable control-valve, power-feed and redundancy options, including dual-feed A/B configurations and automatic transfer switch support. These features allow operators to tailor the CDU to different facility architectures and resiliency requirements. The platform is also designed for higher-temperature operating environments, supporting facility inlet temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius/113 degrees Fahrenheit. Combined with lower approach temperatures, the architecture is intended to improve the efficiency of liquid-cooling systems in high-density AI deployments. LiquidStack CDU 2.X is available for pre-order, with shipments scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
