Benny Blanco & Selena Gomez Celebrate Wedding Anniversary With Year-Old Cake (Despite Martin Short’s Taste Test)

Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco just hit one year of marriage, and they partook of a sweet tradition to mark the milestone: eat some old cake.
The couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Sunday (Sept. 27) by digging into a slice of the cake they saved from their 2025 wedding. Blanco shared a photo of the preserved dessert on his Instagram Story, with the slice sitting upon a pink plate emblazoned with “LOVE IS LOVE.”
“Year old cake never tasted so good,” the music producer wrote.
He also shared an additional photo to his Instagram Story from the couple’s wedding ceremony, writing, “1 year down… forever to go…”
The cake-eating tradition was apparently unfamiliar to Blanco, who had no idea the tradition existed until Gomez’s grandmother told him they needed to save part of the cake for their first anniversary. “I didn’t even know this was a thing,” Blanco said while guest hosting Today with Jenna & Sheinelle earlier this month.
There was just one problem, which was that their cake had already been partially eaten.
Blanco explained that the couple had opted for a small cake tucked away at their reception instead of a massive traditional wedding cake. Gomez’s Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short apparently mistook it for a decorated prop and helped himself to a taste.
“He just ate it with his hand, and they had to put it back together,” Blanco recalled.
While Gomez and Blanco might’ve envisioned preserving their wedding cake as a sweet first anniversary ritual, they were actually working with remnants of a cake that had already survived an unexpected taste test.
Blanco said the couple had six slices left, joking that he hoped the tradition wouldn’t require them to keep eating the cake for years to come. “I hope you only have to eat it for the first year,” he said. “I don’t want to be eating this thing on year six. I didn’t even wrap it correctly. It’s probably furry now.”
Gomez and Blanco tied the knot Sept. 27, 2025, in Santa Barbara, California. The couple have kept much of their marriage relatively low-key, with Blanco previously saying they planned to spend their first anniversary just relaxing after months of travel.
The couple have kept their creative partnership going over the past year. In August, Blanco released his Spanish-language-inspired album Hermoso , which includes “Te Olvido (La La),” his collaboration with Gomez and Becky G. The track followed Gomez and Blanco’s joint 2025 album I Said I Love You First , which debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 — giving Blanco his first top 10 album on the chart and Gomez her seventh.
